My name is Luuk (17). I live in Massachusetts, USA and partly in Taipei, Taiwan. I carry three passports and speak the three languages that go with it: English, Chinese and Dutch.
I am just finishing high school near Boston and I am looking for a job. My current dream is going to Flight School to become a commercial airline pilot, but life is supposed to be what happens between making plans, so I am keeping an open mind.
I am a teenager. The list of things I want to do is far longer than the list of things I’ve done so far, so my resume is short. What I lack in years of experience, I make up for with 17 years of enthusiasm and initiative.
I was born in the USA, educated in Taiwan and the USA and have lived in the Netherlands as well. I am a mix and a cultural hybrid.
My Dutch side makes me pragmatic and resourceful. The Dutch are always changing their world, even moving water out of the way if they need to. I think I inherited those traits: I’m pretty down to earth and straightforward, yet creative and determined when it comes to finding solutions and building new things.
My Taiwanese upbringing has taught me the importance of being a reasonable and responsible member of society. From an early age we were taught to take care of each other and our planet. 23 million Taiwanese have managed to build a tolerant, inclusive, friendly, safe and caring society on their tiny island, and I am proud to be one of them.
Being American means you can be of any culture, ethnicity or background, and still have a shared culture that unites you. I love the fast-paced, result-driven and versatile attitude that comes with it. The USA is probably where I feel at home the most.
I feel I am more than the sum of these three cultural parts. Being able to bridge cultures, switch languages instantly and feel at home pretty much anywhere on the planet is an added advantage, I think: the last quarter that completes the circle.
I was raised to be independent, self-reliant and resourceful. I am just getting started in life, but I like to think I have a pretty good idea about what I want and what I can do.
I love airplanes.I had my first flight in a motor glider when I was five and have been crazy about airplanes ever since. I have flown around the world as an Unaccompanied Minor many times and love all things aviation.
For me, aviation is not just about the flying. Aviation is where state-of-the-art design and technology come together to create the most advanced, durable machines we can make. For me it's the perfect combination.
I aspire to become a commercial pilot, but I realize I have a long journey ahead, so I am keeping my options open. There is a lot about aviation that appeals to me, including the commercial/business aspect of it.
My father owns a marketing and branding agency with clients in aviation and MRO. I was always interested in learning how that industry operates.
At seventeen, I cannot claim a long employment history or an engineering degree, of course, but I have worked in electronics assembly and repair, and have a solid knowledge of marketing and administration. I am convinced that my lack of specific skills will be offset by my ability to learn quicky, and by my responsible and diligent nature.
Drop me an email and I will get back to you right away.
